Victor Letsoalo climbs South Africa’s all-time scoring charts after flying start

Victor Letsoalo has moved into South Africa’s all-time top-flight scoring conversation after opening the 2026/27 season with four goals in four league matches.

The 33-year-old striker’s early-season form has taken him to the top of the current scoring charts and lifted his overall tally to 75 goals in all official competitions for clubs competing in the top tier of South African football.

Letsoalo reached that landmark across 267 appearances, giving him a return of one goal every 3.56 games. His record includes the three goals he scored in the 2016/17 PSL Promotion-Relegation Playoffs.

The calculation of his top-flight total starts with the 2016/17 campaign, when Baroka secured promotion from the first division and entered the Betway Premiership.

Letsoalo has represented six clubs during that period: Baroka, Bloemfontein Celtic, Royal AM, AmaZulu, Sekhukhune United and TS Galaxy.

His latest goals have moved him into third place among the active players included in the PSL’s all-time scoring standings, behind Bradley Grobler and Iqraam Rayners. He has now gone beyond the totals of the late Dennis Lota and Abram Raselemane, who both finished with 74 goals.

Next in Letsoalo’s path is Alton Meiring, also late, who scored 79 goals.

The next marks on the list are Anthony Laffor and Gabadinho Mhango, both on 81, before Rayners on 82. Bernard Parker follows with 86, while Katlego ‘Mahoota’ Mashego has 88.

Wilfred Mugeyi and Lehlohonolo Majoro are level on 91 goals, with Khama Billiat further ahead on 97.

Grobler, who is now with Stellenbosch, is identified as the only active player in the higher section of the ranking.

The figures count goals scored in all official competitions while a player was attached to a club in South Africa’s top division. That means certain goals scored by players during spells in the second tier are excluded.

For Rayners, the 19 goals he scored in the Motsepe Foundation Championship during the 2018/19 season, when he finished as the competition’s leading scorer, are not included. His goals for Stellenbosch while the club was competing in that division are also left out.

The same rule applies to goals scored by Rayners for Santos during their time in the second tier.

Letsoalo’s surge comes as he seeks to add to a career that has included spells at six top-flight clubs. His four goals from the first four matches of the new campaign have not only placed him at the summit of the early scoring standings but also brought him closer to a series of established milestones in South African football.

With Meiring’s 79-goal mark now within reach, Letsoalo needs five more goals to draw level with the former top-flight scorer.
