Egypt win two golds as Mediterranean Games medal tally reaches 22

Egypt’s delegation won two gold medals among seven medals secured on Wednesday, taking its overall total at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto to 22.

The latest golds came in finswimming, where Tarek Hassan triumphed in the 100m monofin event and Moheb Ehab claimed first place in the 400m competition.

Egypt now has seven gold medals, six silver and nine bronze ahead of Thursday’s events at the Games, which are being hosted by the Italian city of Taranto from 22 August to 1 September.

The country is also guaranteed another medal in boxing after Nabila Ala El-Din reached the final of her event. That bout is scheduled to take place on Thursday.

Egypt’s medal haul includes five gold medals won earlier in the competition by Samar Hamza, Mohamed El-Sayed, Mohamed Hamza, Mohamed Hassan and Abdelrahman Heridy.

Mohamed El-Sayed secured gold in fencing, while Mohamed Hamza won the men’s foil title.

Mohamed Hassan and Samar Hamza added wrestling gold medals, and Abdelrahman Heridy completed the group’s achievements with a swimming title.

The two latest victories in finswimming have helped Egypt strengthen its position in the medal standings before the final stages of the competition. The delegation’s total of 22 medals includes success across fencing, wrestling, swimming, boxing and finswimming.

With Nabila Ala El-Din through to the boxing final, Egypt will have the opportunity to add to its medal count on Thursday, while competition continues across the remaining events in Taranto.
