Moussa Diaby transfer to Bayer Leverkusen nears completion

Bayer Leverkusen appear to have finally cleared the last major obstacle in their attempt to re-sign Moussa Diaby.

After several days of difficult negotiations, every party is reportedly aligned on a deal that would bring the French winger back to the Bundesliga.

According to kicker, the remaining issue involved compensation for Diaby’s departure from Al Ittihad. That problem has now been resolved, with Leverkusen expected to pay a transfer fee just below €30 million for the 27-year-old.

The Saudi club had been reluctant to approve the move because it wanted to secure a replacement before releasing Diaby. Their stance may have softened after Ritsu Doan emerged as a possible target. The Eintracht Frankfurt winger has been linked with a move to Al Ittihad by Saudi media, and his potential arrival could have opened the door for Diaby’s return.

Leverkusen are experiencing a busy finish to the transfer window. Ernest Poku and Exequiel Palacios are both reportedly approaching exits, while Diaby’s signing is now considered almost complete.

Diaby previously made his name at Leverkusen before moving to Aston Villa and later Al Ittihad. His return would give the German club another dynamic attacking option, combining speed, creativity and experience on the wing.
