Emam Ashour extends Al Ahly contract until 2030

Al Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour has extended his contract with the Egyptian giants until 2030, ending weeks of speculation over a possible move to Turkish side Konyaspor.

The Cairo club confirmed the agreement on Wednesday after completing the administrative and financial procedures surrounding the new deal.

Ashour finalised the extension during a meeting with Essam Serag Eldin, head of Al Ahly’s contracts sector, in coordination with sporting director Wael Gomaa.

The 28-year-old expressed his gratitude to the club and its supporters and said he was committed to continuing his career with Al Ahly.

The new contract ends uncertainty surrounding Ashour’s future after Konyaspor publicly confirmed their interest in signing the Egypt international.

Konyaspor board member Ali Camgoz told Egyptian broadcaster ON Sport that the Turkish club had made an offer for Ashour and that the midfielder was open to the possibility of joining them.

Camgoz said Al Ahly had yet to respond to the proposal but insisted Konyaspor remained interested in completing the transfer.

Reports in the Egyptian media suggested Konyaspor had offered about $4m for Ashour, while Al Ahly were believed to value the midfielder at around $8m.

Ashour joined Al Ahly from Danish club FC Midtjylland in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth $3m, signing a five-year contract.

He had previously played for Cairo rivals Zamalek before moving to Europe and subsequently returning to Egypt with Al Ahly.

Since joining the Reds, Ashour has made 105 appearances in all competitions and scored 32 goals.

He has played an important role in Al Ahly’s recent success, helping the club win consecutive Egyptian Premier League titles in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons, as well as the 2024-25 CAF Champions League.

At international level, Ashour made his Egypt debut in 2021 and has established himself as an important member of Hossam Hassan’s squad.

He featured for the Pharaohs at the Africa Cup of Nations and scored twice in five appearances at the World Cup.

With his future now secured, Ashour will remain at Al Ahly until at least 2030 as the club look to maintain their dominance domestically and compete for further continental honours.
