Pape Matar Sarr emerges as Monaco midfield option amid Camara uncertainty

AS Monaco have made enquiries about Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr as they prepare for a potentially busy end to the transfer window.

The French club are assessing their options in midfield because Lamine Camara’s impressive performances at the beginning of the season have attracted interest from several European sides. The Senegal international could leave the Principality before the transfer window closes, prompting Monaco’s hierarchy to investigate possible replacements.

According to the British newspaper The Telegraph, Monaco have contacted Tottenham to ask about the availability of Sarr, who is also a Senegal international.

The 23-year-old has been part of the Spurs squad for four seasons and is understood to be keen on a change of surroundings this summer. However, Monaco are not the only club monitoring the situation. Turkish side Galatasaray have also shown an interest in the midfielder.

Galatasaray have so far been unwilling to meet Tottenham’s financial demands for Sarr. That stance could give the team managed by Filipe Luis an opportunity to make progress in negotiations, although no agreement has been reported.

Sarr remains under contract with Tottenham until June 2030. The midfielder, who was born in Thiaroye, is valued at €30m by Transfermarkt. His reported annual salary in England is €4,254,114, equivalent to 2,765,174,100 CFA francs.

The possible move is linked to uncertainty over Camara’s future at Monaco. The Senegalese midfielder has made a strong impression early in the campaign, encouraging interest from clubs elsewhere in Europe and raising the possibility that Monaco may need to act quickly if he departs.

Sarr joined Tottenham’s first-team group four seasons ago and has since remained part of the club’s midfield options. His long-term contract means Tottenham are in a strong position when it comes to any potential transfer, while Galatasaray’s reluctance to match the asking price has left the path open for Monaco to explore a deal.
