Former Al-Ahly goalkeeper and Egyptian national team member, Ahmed Shobeir, issued a caution to the board of the Egyptian Football Association, led by Jamal Allam, regarding the contract terms for the new national team coach.
The Egyptian Football Association announced on Sunday the departure of Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria following Egypt’s disappointing performance in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The association revealed its intention to contract a new foreign coach in the coming period.
Ahmed Shobeir emphasized in a radio statement, “I’m saying it now, the Football Association needs to know and understand that its remaining tenure won’t extend beyond, for example, 8 months.
Any new contract with a coach must be formulated in a way that doesn’t create issues for the new board or subject them to challenges.”
He continued, “Be mindful of numerous possibilities; the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations could be similar to the last two years.
We need to act swiftly, organize ourselves early, and if I see that the tournament is exceptionally challenging at this time, we should consider alternative plans.”
Shobeir added, “In any case, let’s avoid the mistakes we witnessed in Vitoria’s contract terms, and ensure that the current challenges are overcome swiftly for a seamless transition and resolution of Vitoria’s contractual obligations.”
