Former Cape Town City coach Diogo Peral joins Eric Tinkler at Asante Kotoko

Former Cape Town City assistant coach Diogo Peral has joined Eric Tinkler at Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko, where he will take up a technical adviser role.

The move reunites Peral with Tinkler, with whom he previously worked at Cape Town City. The pair will now collaborate in Ghana as Asante Kotoko seek to restore the club to its former prominence.

Peral spent most of his coaching career at Cape Town City. He initially worked as head coach of the club’s reserve side, known as DDC, before moving into the first-team setup as an assistant.

During his time with the South African club, he served under a number of head coaches, including Jan Olde Riekerink, Tinkler and Muhsin Ertugral. His experience at the club included brief periods in caretaker charge when Olde Riekerink was placed on administrative leave in May 2021.

Peral was appointed Cape Town City’s first-team coach in March 2025, with the agreement running until the end of that season. He was supported in that role by former South Africa international Lebogang Manyama and coach Roger De Sa.

He has now moved to Asante Kotoko to become a technical adviser, taking up a position that will see him work alongside Tinkler once again. The two South Africans are familiar with each other from their time together at Cape Town City.

Their arrival forms part of Asante Kotoko’s plans to revive the club’s fortunes. They will operate under Stanley Menzo, the former Ajax Cape Town coach who has been appointed Technical Director.

Asante Kotoko are hoping the combination of Tinkler and Peral, working alongside Menzo, can help bring back the glory days of one of Ghana’s most established clubs.

For Peral, the appointment represents another step in a coaching career that has largely been built at Cape Town City. His responsibilities there ranged from managing the reserve team to assisting several senior coaches before he was handed a first-team role.

His return to a support position at Asante Kotoko will also see him work within a broader technical structure led by Menzo. Tinkler will be joined by a colleague he already knows as the Ghanaian club begins its effort to rebuild.

The appointment has been confirmed after Peral’s departure from the Cape Town City setup, where he had served in several coaching capacities over a number of years.
