Sarasota add American-Ugandan defender Kisa Kiingi from Switchbacks FC

Sarasota have signed American-Ugandan right-back Kisa Kiingi from Switchbacks FC on loan, adding the 24-year-old defender to their squad for the remainder of the 2026 season.

Kiingi’s move was completed on 24 August and takes him from the USL Championship to Sarasota’s USL1 squad. The loan runs until 30 November 2026, when he is due to return to Switchbacks FC.

The Nairobi-born defender has made three appearances since joining Sarasota, featuring once in the USL Championship and twice in the USL Cup. He has played 31 minutes across those matches, starting none of them, and has not scored or registered an assist.

Kiingi played for Switchbacks FC before moving to Sarasota, having joined the Colorado-based club in May 2026 after a spell without a club. His time with Switchbacks followed a short period at Minnesota 2, which he joined in March 2025 on a free transfer from Cornell Big Red.

He began his senior club career with Cornell Big Red, joining from Bethesda-Olney in August 2020 on a free transfer. He later spent time at Lionsbridge on loan during the 2021-22 season before returning to Cornell Big Red in August 2022.

A right-footed defender standing 1.85m tall, Kiingi is eligible to represent both the United States and Uganda. His arrival gives Sarasota another option at right-back as the club continues its 2026 campaign.

Kiingi’s current contract with Sarasota ends on 30 November, matching the scheduled conclusion of his loan from Switchbacks FC. The defender has therefore completed a temporary move to Sarasota from the USL Championship club.
