Oumar Diakite left out of Stade de Reims plans after promising Cercle Brugge loan

Oumar Diakite’s future at Stade de Reims has become uncertain after the 22-year-old Ivory Coast striker was reportedly sent to train with the club’s reserve team.

Diakite returned to Reims following an encouraging loan spell at Cercle Brugge in Belgium, where he scored seven goals in the Pro League during the 2025-26 season. However, despite that return, he no longer appears to be part of the first-team plans at the French club, who are now competing in Ligue 2.

According to information from decest_dorhi6, Diakite has been working with Reims’ reserve side. The decision underlines the difficult position facing the Ivory Coast international as he attempts to establish the next stage of his career.

With the summer transfer window approaching its closing date, the former Cercle Brugge forward is now expected to look for a new club. Diakite is seeking a project that can provide regular playing time and help him rebuild his momentum after an encouraging campaign in Belgium.

His situation leaves little time for a resolution. A move before the end of the transfer window would give the striker the opportunity to leave Reims and continue his development elsewhere, while remaining at the club without a clear first-team role could make it harder for him to regain his place at international level.

One possible destination has emerged in Germany. Diakite’s name has been linked with Schalke 04, who are understood to have shown an interest in the forward. The possibility was first revealed by Africafoot.

A transfer to Schalke 04, or another club able to offer him a defined role, could provide Diakite with the stability he currently lacks. His spell in Belgium demonstrated his ability to contribute in front of goal, with seven Pro League goals in the 2025-26 campaign, but he now needs a club prepared to trust him with consistent opportunities.

The final days of the transfer market could therefore prove decisive. Leaving Stade de Reims would allow Diakite to draw a line under an increasingly difficult situation and begin again after his positive season with Cercle Brugge.

If no agreement is reached before the window closes, the outlook could become more challenging for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations winner. Having been moved to the reserve team, he may have to wait for an opportunity to escape the current impasse and give his career fresh impetus.

Stade de Reims are due to play their fourth Ligue 2 match against Red Star shortly. The listed betting odds for the fixture are 2.75 for a Reims victory, 3.10 for a draw and 2.37 for a Red Star win.
