Chelsea defender Mamadou Sarr emerges as Real Sociedad transfer target
French-Senegalese defender Mamadou Sarr is being linked with a move from Chelsea to Real Sociedad in La Liga. The 20-year-old centre-back is the subject of reported interest from the Spanish club, although there is no indication that a transfer has been agreed.
Sarr has yet to make an appearance for Chelsea in the 2026-27 Premier League season, with the defender also unused in the available matches for the 2026 World Cup. His current campaign has therefore begun without a competitive appearance at club level.
Chelsea signed Sarr from Strasbourg for €14m in June 2025. He spent part of the following season back at Strasbourg on loan before returning to Stamford Bridge in February 2026, and was part of Chelsea’s squad when they won the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The defender’s contract with Chelsea runs until 30 June 2033, meaning any potential move would involve discussions between the clubs rather than a free transfer. Sarr is valued at €22m, while his highest recorded market value has been €25m.
Born in Martigues, France, Sarr has represented both France and Senegal at international youth level. He won the European Under-17 Championship with France in 2022 and the French Youth Cup with Lyon’s under-19 side in the 2021-22 season.
For now, Sarr remains a Chelsea player under a long-term contract, with Real Sociedad’s reported interest yet to develop into a confirmed transfer.
