Brighton reach verbal agreement to sign Algeria defender Jaouen Hadjam

Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Swiss club BSC Young Boys to sign Algeria international Jaouen Hadjam.

According to Foot Mercato, the two clubs have reached an understanding over the transfer, with the final details of the deal still being completed.

The move would take the 23-year-old left-back to the Premier League after he established himself as an important player in Switzerland.

Hadjam’s rise through French football

Born in Paris, Hadjam came through the youth systems at Paris Saint-Germain and Créteil before beginning his professional career with Paris FC in 2018.

He joined FC Nantes in January 2023 but spent only a year with the French club before moving to Young Boys.

The defender quickly became an important part of the Swiss side’s squad, although his progress was interrupted by a syndesmotic ligament injury suffered in January.

Despite the setback, Hadjam still made 30 appearances last season, contributing two goals and four assists.

Algeria international after World Cup campaign

Hadjam has established himself on the international stage with Algeria, earning 21 caps for the North African side.

He was part of the Algeria squad at this summer’s World Cup and featured in three of their four matches at the tournament.

A move to Brighton would now give the Algerian defender the opportunity to test himself in the Premier League, as the Seagulls work to complete the remaining details of the agreement with Young Boys.
