Nigeria winger Onyekachi Silas joins Karvan from Moncarapachense on a free transfer

Onyekachi Silas has joined Azerbaijani club Karvan from Portuguese side Moncarapachense on a free transfer, giving the 30-year-old left winger a new chapter after several seasons in Portugal.

Silas, who was born in Lagos and represents Nigeria, completed the move on 24 August 2026. He has agreed a contract with Karvan until 30 June 2027.

The move follows one season at Moncarapachense, whom Silas joined from fellow Portuguese club Lusitano de Evora in July 2025. His switch to Karvan marks his first recorded move to an Azerbaijani club after a career spent largely in Portugal, alongside a spell in the Czech Republic.

A left-footed attacker, Silas began his senior career with Boavista after progressing from the club’s under-19 side. He subsequently spent time with Gondomar, Marinhense, Gil Vicente, Vilafranquense, Torreense, Alverca, Paredes and Varzim before leaving Portugal for 1. SC Znojmo in February 2024.

He returned to Portugal in January 2025 to join Lusitano de Evora, later moving to Moncarapachense. Silas was part of the Lusitano GC team that won the Campeonato de Portugal in the 2024-25 season.

His career record includes appearances in Portugal’s Liga 3, Liga Portugal 2, Campeonato de Portugal and the Taca de Portugal. He recorded five goals and five assists in 32 MSFL appearances, while also scoring four times in 25 Campeonato de Portugal Serie D matches.

Silas has also featured in Portugal’s professional second tier, making five appearances in Liga Portugal 2, and played in Liga 3 during his time in the country. His experience across several levels of Portuguese football now precedes a move into a new national league with Karvan.

The Nigerian’s arrival is secured on a free transfer, with his Karvan contract running through the end of June 2027.
