Senegal goalkeeper Mory Diaw set to join Al Shabab after Le Havre departure

Senegal international goalkeeper Mory Diaw is set to take his career in a new direction after reportedly reaching an agreement to join Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper is expected to bring his long stint in European football to an end as he prepares to make the move to Saudi Arabia, where he is set to begin a new chapter of his career.

Diaw established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for Le Havre last season, playing a key role between the posts for the Ligue 1 outfit. However, despite having a contract with the French club until 2027, the Senegalese shot-stopper is now reportedly on his way out of Normandy.

Diaw only joined Le Havre in the summer of 2025, but his stay with the club is set to last just one season as Al-Shabab have moved to secure his services.

The goalkeeper is expected to arrive in Saudi Arabia on Monday to complete the final formalities and sign his contract with the Riyadh-based club.

The agreement is said to have already been finalised between the relevant parties, paving the way for Diaw to leave Le Havre despite having one year remaining on his existing deal.

His departure will leave Le Havre with the task of finding a replacement in goal, with Democratic Republic of Congo international Lionel Mpasi among the options available to the French club.

Mpasi impressed with his performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and could now be handed greater responsibility at club level following Diaw’s expected departure.

For Diaw, the move to Al Shabab represents another significant step in a career that has largely been built in European football.

The Senegalese international has spent several years playing across Europe and has gained experience in different leagues before establishing himself in France.

A move to the Saudi Pro League will now offer the experienced goalkeeper a fresh challenge and the opportunity to test himself in one of the fastest-growing football leagues in the world.

Diaw will also be reunited with Ghana international Thomas Partey at Al Shabab. Partey recently completed his move to the Saudi club, adding another African international to the team’s squad.

Should the transfer be completed as expected, Diaw will begin preparations for his first season in Saudi Arabia, with his experience expected to provide additional quality and competition within the Al-Shabab squad.

The move also highlights the growing attraction of the Saudi Pro League to established African and European-based players, with Diaw now poised to become the latest international name to make the switch.
