Julian Alvarez’s Atletico Madrid future in doubt after angry reception from fans

Julian Alvarez’s relationship with Atletico Madrid supporters has reached a critical point after the Argentina forward was repeatedly booed during the 2-2 draw with Villarreal and left the pitch alone at full-time as angry chants continued.

The reaction began before kick-off, with Alvarez reportedly jeered when his name was announced. The hostility intensified when he came on in the 66th minute, with some supporters calling for the forward to leave the club.

Jan Oblak attempted to calm the situation and defend his team-mate after the match. The Atletico goalkeeper said the squad needed to remain united while Alvarez was still an Atletico player, adding that everyone knew what the forward was capable of producing.

Oblak also expressed hope that the dispute would eventually be resolved in a way that satisfied all parties.
