Souhaib Driouch joining Celta Vigo

Moroccan international Souhaib Driouch is on the verge of joining Spanish La Liga side Celta Vigo after the club reportedly reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven over his transfer.

As per reports, negotiations between both parties have been concluded, with Celta Vigo expected to pay slightly more than €6 million to secure the services of the talented winger.

The proposed move would see Driouch leave Dutch football after a relatively short spell with PSV and embark on a new challenge in Spain.

Celta’s decision to pursue the Moroccan attacker reportedly comes at the request of head coach Claudio Giraldez, who has been looking for an attacking player capable of adding greater penetration and unpredictability to his side.

Speaking ahead of Celta Vigo’s match against Valencia, Giraldez highlighted the need for a forward who can attack defensive lines, play vertically and thrive in one-on-one situations — qualities the club believes Driouch can provide.

The Moroccan youngster has developed his footballing career largely in the Netherlands, having been born in Heerenveen in 2002.

He began his football journey with Heerenveen before making the move to Excelsior in 2021. During his time with Excelsior, Driouch continued his development and attracted attention with his performances in Dutch football.

His progress eventually earned him a move to PSV Eindhoven in 2024, with the Dutch giants reportedly paying just over €3 million for his services.

Although his time at PSV has been relatively brief, Driouch has now attracted interest from abroad, with Celta Vigo prepared to more than double the amount PSV initially invested in the player.

The reported fee of slightly over €6 million reflects Celta’s belief in the Moroccan winger’s potential and his ability to make an impact in La Liga.

Driouch’s potential arrival would also provide Celta with another attacking option as they prepare for the demands of the new Spanish season.

The 24-year-old is known for his direct style of play, pace and willingness to take on defenders, qualities that fit the profile outlined by Giraldez.

His ability to operate in wide attacking areas could give Celta greater flexibility in the final third, particularly against teams that defend with compact lines.

For Driouch, the move represents a significant opportunity to test himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues after developing through the Dutch system.

Having spent much of his career in the Netherlands, the Moroccan international will now have the chance to showcase his abilities on the Spanish stage if the transfer is formally completed.

Celta Vigo are also expected to make Driouch their fifth signing of the current summer transfer window.

His arrival would follow the recruitment of Alex Febas, Javi Galán, Abdoulaye Faï and another addition as the Galician club continues to reshape its squad.

The transfer remains subject to the completion of the necessary formalities, but with the two clubs reportedly having reached an agreement, Driouch is edging closer to becoming a Celta Vigo player.

The Moroccan Under-23 international will now be hoping to make a strong impression in Spain and justify the confidence shown in him by Celta’s management and coaching staff.
