PSV Eindhoven consider Sparta Rotterdam prospect Ayoni Santos after breakthrough season
PSV Eindhoven are considering a move for Sparta Rotterdam midfielder Ayoni Santos, although the Eredivisie club have not yet made any concrete approach for the 21-year-old Cape Verdean.
The possibility was reported by Eindhovens Dagblad on Sunday morning, with Santos emerging as one of the names under consideration as PSV continue to look for midfield reinforcements.
Eindhovens Dagblad described Santos as “an interesting name” before adding: “Among the options being considered is 21-year-old Ayoni Santos of Sparta, but given the current squad, it is unlikely that he would quickly earn a starting place.”
The report does not identify the other midfielders being assessed by PSV Eindhoven. Santos is understood to have entered the club’s thinking after an encouraging first season in the Eredivisie, but there is no indication that negotiations have begun or that a formal bid has been made.
Santos has attracted attention during his time at Sparta Rotterdam, with his performances prompting speculation that he could leave the club during the summer transfer window. VoetbalPrimeur reported in June that a move for the young player appeared to be imminent, but no interested club has so far completed a deal.
Sparta Rotterdam were previously reported to be seeking several million euros for Santos. It is not known whether that valuation remains in place or whether it would still be enough to persuade the Kasteelheren to agree to his departure.
The midfielder remains under contract with Sparta Rotterdam until the middle of 2029, meaning the club are not under immediate pressure to sell. That long-term agreement could give Sparta a strong negotiating position should PSV Eindhoven or another club decide to turn their interest into a formal offer.
For now, Santos remains one of several possibilities being examined by PSV Eindhoven rather than an established transfer target. His potential availability, the fee required by Sparta Rotterdam and the competition for places in the PSV midfield are all factors that could influence whether the interest develops further.
The player’s first campaign in the Eredivisie has nevertheless ensured that he is being considered by one of the Netherlands’ leading clubs. With Santos contracted in Rotterdam for several more years, any move this summer would depend on an interested club meeting Sparta’s demands and convincing the Kasteelheren to release him.
