Napoli hand Benoit Badiashile chance to revive career after Chelsea spell
Napoli have confirmed the arrival of France international defender Benoit Badiashile from Chelsea on a paid loan deal worth €3m, with an option to buy included in the agreement.
The 25-year-old centre-back, who is of Congolese origin, is moving to Italy after an inconsistent spell in England, where he struggled to establish himself as a regular part of Chelsea’s defence.
Napoli announced the transfer in a statement published on the club’s official website. Badiashile will now join Massimiliano Allegri’s squad as the Italian club strengthen an important area of their team ahead of the new campaign.
The move gives Badiashile the opportunity to relaunch his career in Serie A after his playing time at Chelsea became increasingly irregular. He joined the London club from AS Monaco in January 2023 in a deal worth about €38m.
Before leaving Monaco, Badiashile made 135 appearances for the club. His time at Chelsea has so far brought 71 appearances in all competitions, with the defender scoring two goals and providing one assist.
Despite being given opportunities, Badiashile found it difficult to secure a long-term place in Chelsea’s central defensive partnership. His transfer to Napoli could provide him with a more settled role under Allegri, who will expect the Frenchman to add strength and depth to his defensive options.
Badiashile remains under contract at Chelsea until 30 June 2030. His current estimated market value is €15m, meaning Napoli’s loan agreement gives the club the option to assess his performances in Italy before deciding whether to make the transfer permanent.
The move also comes shortly before Fulham are due to face Chelsea in the opening round of the English championship. Betting company 1xbet lists Fulham at odds of 3.10 to win, with a draw priced at 3.55 and Chelsea rated at 2.00.
Badiashile’s departure leaves Chelsea without a player who had been signed as a significant defensive investment, while Napoli gain a centre-back with experience in both Ligue 1 and the Premier League. His next challenge will be adapting to Italian football and competing for a starting place in Allegri’s side.
