FC Porto weigh move for Rennes midfielder Seko Fofana after Rodrigo Mora exit
FC Porto are assessing a possible move for Stade Rennais midfielder Seko Fofana as they look to strengthen their midfield following Rodrigo Mora’s transfer to AS Roma.
The Portuguese club are considering several options for the position, with Fofana among the players being monitored by their directors, according to O Jogo.
Fofana, an Ivory Coast international, made a strong impression during his spell with FC Porto last season. The 31-year-old spent a little over three months with the Dragons, but quickly showed the influence and experience that could make him an attractive option for the club once again.
His previous contribution has placed him on Porto’s shortlist as they search for a replacement in midfield. The departure of Mora brought the club approximately 25m euros, but it has also left what is viewed as a gap in the centre of the team.
FC Porto president Andre Villas-Boas is now seeking a player capable of helping to compensate for Mora’s absence. However, the club is expected to prioritise a financially sensible deal rather than commit to an excessive transfer fee.
Fofana remains under contract with Stade Rennais until June 2029. His current estimated market value is 8m euros, according to Transfermarkt, although it remains unclear whether FC Porto will make a formal approach for the midfielder.
Fofana earns an annual salary of 4,550,000 euros in France, equivalent to 2,957,500,000 CFA francs.
The midfielder’s situation is also being watched ahead of Stade Rennais’ opening match of the French championship, when they will face Paris Saint-Germain. At present, it is not known whether the fixture will have any impact on his future or on Porto’s decision-making.
Betting company 1xBet has listed Stade Rennais at odds of 6.80 to win that match, with a draw priced at 5.40 and Paris Saint-Germain at 1.36. The source article also states that the 1xBet service can be downloaded.
For now, FC Porto are continuing to examine possible midfield reinforcements, while Fofana’s position at Stade Rennais remains one of the situations attracting particular attention. Any move would depend on Porto deciding that the Ivory Coast international’s experience and previous connection with the club justify a concrete offer.
