Elye Wahi poised for Ligue 1 return after Nice and Frankfurt agreement
OGC Nice have reached an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt over the arrival of Elye Wahi, with the Ivorian striker expected on the Cote d’Azur on Saturday evening to complete his move, according to Sacha Tavolieri.
The deal is set to be structured as a loan for the former Lens forward, with Nice holding an option to buy worth 15m euros. The French club will also cover the player’s full salary for the duration of his time with the Aiglons.
Wahi still has to undergo a medical examination, which is scheduled to take place within the next 24 hours. Provided he passes those checks, Nice are expected to confirm his arrival shortly afterwards.
The move would give Wahi an opportunity to restart his career in Ligue 1 after joining Eintracht Frankfurt. His contract with the German club runs until 30 June 2030, while Transfermarkt currently values him at 18m euros.
Nice are hoping the change of surroundings will help the striker rediscover his form through a new challenge in France. Wahi’s annual salary in Germany is reported to be 3,770,000 euros, equivalent to 2,450,500,000 CFA francs.
The agreement between the two clubs represents a possible return to Ligue 1 for Wahi, with the proposed purchase option allowing Nice to make the move permanent at the end of the loan period. For now, however, the immediate focus is on completing the medical and the formal steps required before the transfer can be announced.
Wahi’s expected arrival comes as Eintracht Frankfurt prepare for their opening match of the German league season against Union Berlin. The fixture is scheduled to take place very soon, with Frankfurt beginning their campaign before the forward’s proposed switch to Nice is completed.
Betting company 1xBet has listed Union Berlin at odds of 2.35 to win that match. A draw is priced at 3.45, while an Eintracht Frankfurt victory is listed at 2.65.
If the medical is successful, Wahi’s move should then be formalised, allowing him to begin his next Ligue 1 chapter with Nice. The club will take responsibility for his wages during the loan, while retaining the option to sign him permanently for 15m euros.
