Hamdallah double puts Saudi Pro League scoring summit within reach
Abderrazak Hamdallah moved closer to becoming the Saudi Pro League’s all-time leading scorer after scoring twice for Al Taawoun in their 3-2 defeat by Al Kholood on Saturday.
The Morocco striker’s goals took his career total in the competition to 158, leaving him three short of Omar Al Somah’s record of 161. Hamdallah also equalled Al Somah’s record for total goal contributions in the Saudi Pro League, with both players now on 183.
Hamdallah’s first goal came in the 52nd minute. He received a well-weighted pass inside the penalty area and finished with a decisive touch to send the ball into the net.
The goal gave Al Taawoun renewed momentum and brought them back into a match in which Al Kholood eventually secured all three points.
Hamdallah struck again in the third minute of added time. He rose to meet a ball in the area and powered a header into the net, completing his brace. However, the late effort was not enough to prevent Al Taawoun from suffering defeat.
Despite the result, the two goals delivered another significant statistical milestone for the 34-year-old forward, who continues to build an exceptional record in Saudi football.
According to Opta, Hamdallah now has 183 goal contributions in the Saudi Pro League, made up of 158 goals and 25 assists. Al Somah’s equivalent total is also 183, with the Syrian having scored 161 goals and provided 22 assists.
Hamdallah is therefore within touching distance of matching Al Somah’s scoring mark. If he scores three more goals, the pair will be level on 161, while his next goal after that would give him sole possession of the competition’s all-time scoring record.
The latest brace underlined that Hamdallah’s goalscoring instincts remain as strong as ever after several years in Saudi football. His continued pursuit of Al Somah has created a closely watched race at the top of the league’s historical scoring charts.
The pair could soon be level on 161 goals, a moment that would leave Hamdallah one further strike away from taking the record outright. His latest performance means that prospect is now approaching, even though Al Taawoun left the match without a point.
Hamdallah’s 183 contributions also place him level with Al Somah for the highest total in Saudi Pro League history. The figures highlight the scale of both players’ influence in the competition, while Hamdallah’s recent scoring form has opened the possibility of a new record being established in the coming rounds.
