Dame Gueye stays at Le Mans FC despite transfer interest
Dame Gueye is set to remain with Le Mans FC after attracting interest from several clubs abroad.
The Senegalese striker, who scored ten goals in Ligue 2 last season, had appeared open to a new challenge, but none of the proposals ultimately matched his expectations.
Apollon Limassol, AEL Limassol and Iraklis Thessaloniki had all shown interest in the 31-year-old. The Cypriot clubs finished third and eighth respectively in their previous league campaign, while Iraklis had just earned promotion to Greece’s top division.
Despite those approaches, Gueye will continue leading Le Mans’ attack as the club prepares for life in Ligue 1. His decision is a major boost for a side that would have faced a difficult rebuilding process if its leading scorer had departed late in the summer.
Gueye’s finishing and consistency proved vital during Le Mans’ promotion campaign. Away from the spotlight, he developed into a dependable forward who could deliver when matches were finely balanced. That reliability convinced the club to prioritise keeping him rather than accepting offers from overseas.
His continued presence should provide confidence to Le Mans’ squad before the new season begins against Brest. For Gueye, Ligue 1 offers a valuable chance to demonstrate that he can still reach another level at this stage of his career.
