Hansi Flick challenges Alejandro Balde at Barcelona
Alejandro Balde’s future at Barcelona has become less certain following Joao Cancelo’s return to the squad.
The 22-year-old left-back has reportedly attracted interest from Manchester United, but manager Hansi Flick has made clear that his place cannot be guaranteed.
Flick acknowledged Balde’s considerable talent while stressing that every player must prove their value consistently in training and matches. The German coach wants strong competition for every position, particularly with Cancelo now providing another option on the left side.
“This is a difficult question because he has immense talent. It is important to know whether a player is convinced that he can compete for his position. That is what I expect from all my players,” Flick said at his press conference.
He added: “Every day, I watch what they do and assess their level. I check whether they show me that they have what is required to play. In the end, we must play as a team, because that is the only way we will achieve success. I need everyone to be at 100%.”
The comments represent a clear warning for Balde, who must respond positively if he wants to remain first choice. His performances in the coming weeks could shape both his role at Barcelona and his wider transfer prospects.
