Thabo Moloisane chose Kaizer Chiefs over other offers, says agent

Kaizer Chiefs defender Thabo Moloisane turned down other opportunities because he wanted to join Amakhosi, according to his agent Karabo Mathang-Tshabuse.

Moloisane, 27, moved to Kaizer Chiefs from Stellenbosch in July after spending three seasons with the club. He made his full debut for Chiefs in their 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership last weekend.

Mathang-Tshabuse said the defender was particularly pleased to return home, where he could be close to his family and see them every day.

Speaking on Sport Night Amplified With Andile Ncube, the P Management representative also confirmed that Moloisane had attracted interest from outside South Africa. However, an international proposal did not suit the player and his family, while the deal was also not progressing as they had hoped.

“He’s at Kaizer Chiefs, and yeah, they fought to have him there, and he wanted to be there, so he forsake all other deals to take that,” she said.

The agent explained that the overseas opportunity involved a destination with circumstances similar to those surrounding Mohau Nkota, although she did not provide further details about the jurisdiction or the proposed deal.

“No, there was one international deal, but it didn’t work for the family in a similar jurisdiction to where Mohau Nkota is. But also, to be fair, it was not advancing in the way that we wanted it to advance.

“Yeah, I think happiness is relative. Every new opportunity brings its own challenges and I think he’s alive to that. You know, he’s alive to the fact that this is an established team.

“You know, it has a captain who has led the team for a while, and so he has to adapt to the Kaizer Chief style of play, but man, that guy is mature and he signed up for it.”

Mathang-Tshabuse praised Moloisane’s attitude as he begins life at one of South Africa’s most established clubs. She said he understood that joining Kaizer Chiefs would bring a different set of demands and that he would need to adjust to the team’s way of playing.

The defender’s move came after three seasons at Stellenbosch, where he developed before making the switch to Amakhosi. His first full appearance for Kaizer Chiefs came against Mamelodi Sundowns, with the sides sharing the points in a 1-1 draw in the Betway Premiership.

According to his agent, the decision to join Chiefs was therefore not simply based on the alternatives available to him. Moloisane actively wanted the move, while the club also worked to secure his services. His choice meant setting aside the other deals that had been available, including the international proposal that did not ultimately meet the needs of his family or progress at the desired pace.
