Jamal Musiala diagnosed with neurological disorder after second collapse

Jamal Musiala has been diagnosed with a neurological disorder after collapsing during a match for the second time in four days, the Bayern Munich midfielder said.

The 23-year-old Germany international required medical attention after going down six minutes after coming on as a substitute during Bayern’s 4-2 friendly victory at Heidenheim. He was helped from the pitch following the incident.

Musiala had also collapsed in Bayern’s previous friendly, a 3-1 win over RB Leipzig on Saturday.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Musiala said the episodes were caused by a temporary neurological dysfunction and could be treated.

“I’ve been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but easily treatable absences caused by a neurological dysfunction,” he posted.

“These can lead to episodes like the ones that occurred recently – such as against Leipzig or just now in Heidenheim. I ‌know these can seem scary at first glance but, for me, they’re currently part of my everyday life.

“I’m receiving the best medical care for this and am very optimistic.”

Musiala added that doctors had ruled out any further health risks.

The midfielder has made 231 appearances for Bayern Munich. His latest incidents come after he missed six months of last season with an ankle fracture suffered at the Club Cup.

Musiala recovered from that injury and returned later in the campaign before representing Germany at the 2026 World Cup.

The Bayern player’s two collapses occurred in successive friendly matches, with the second coming shortly after he entered the game at Heidenheim. He was unable to continue and needed assistance away from the playing surface.

Musiala’s statement was intended to reassure supporters that he was receiving specialist medical care and that the condition was currently considered manageable. He described the episodes as brief and temporary, while acknowledging that they could appear alarming when they happened on the pitch.

Bayern’s two recent victories were both high-scoring games, with the German club beating RB Leipzig 3-1 before following that result with a 4-2 success at Heidenheim.

Musiala, who has established himself as an important player for both Bayern Munich and Germany, said he remained positive about his recovery and future. He also confirmed that medical professionals had found no additional health risks after investigating the collapses.
