Salah’s first European tie for Trabzonspor to be shown live on ON Sport
ON Sport has announced that it will broadcast both matches between Trabzonspor and Ferencvarosi TC in the UEFA Europa League play-off round, giving Mohamed Salah his first European assignment with the Turkish club.
Ferencvarosi TC, from Hungary, will face Trabzonspor in the two-legged play-off for a place in the UEFA Europa League. The tie will be Salah’s first European involvement since joining Trabzonspor, where he is now one of the club’s most prominent players.
Ferencvarosi TC reached the play-off round after overcoming Polish side Gornik Zabrze in the third qualifying round. The Hungarian team established an advantage in the first leg by winning 1-0 at home on Wednesday, 5 August.
The second meeting in Poland ended 1-1, allowing Ferencvarosi TC to progress with a 2-1 aggregate victory. Their reward is a tie against Trabzonspor, with the two sides now set to meet over two matches for a place in the group stage of the competition.
The first leg between Trabzonspor and Ferencvarosi TC will take place on Thursday, 20 August, at Papara Park in Turkey. The return fixture is scheduled for Thursday, 27 August, in Hungary.
ON Sport’s decision to broadcast both matches means viewers will be able to follow Salah’s first European tie since his move to Trabzonspor. The Egyptian forward joined the Turkish club on a two-year contract as a free agent after ending his agreement with Liverpool.
Salah has already made his competitive debut for Trabzonspor. He featured in the opening round of the Turkish league, in a match that finished 1-1.
His involvement in that fixture came shortly after completing his move to the club and preceded Trabzonspor’s Europa League play-off meetings with Ferencvarosi TC. The two-leg tie will therefore provide the first opportunity to see Salah compete for his new side in European competition.
Trabzonspor must first overcome Ferencvarosi TC across the two fixtures, while the Hungarian club will enter the tie with confidence after securing victory over Gornik Zabrze in the previous round. The first match in Turkey will be followed by the decisive return game in Hungary one week later.
For Salah, the fixtures represent the beginning of his European campaign with Trabzonspor after his departure from Liverpool. ON Sport will carry both encounters: the opening match at Papara Park on 20 August and the second leg in Hungary on 27 August.
