Kaizer Chiefs defender Xolani Cossa still waiting for Gomora United loan move
Kaizer Chiefs defender Xolani Cossa remains with Gomora United during pre-season, but his proposed loan move has yet to be completed, according to Gomora chairman Joe Seanego.
Kaizer Chiefs recently confirmed that Samkelo Zwane, Bontle Molefe, Ofentse Kgosana, Vicky Mkhawana and Sifiso Timba had joined clubs in the Motsepe Foundation Championship on loan. However, Cossa’s name was absent from the announcement, despite the left-sided centre-back having trained with Gomora.
Seanego said the paperwork for Cossa’s move was still being processed by Kaizer Chiefs.
“Yes (he is with Gomora). We are waiting for Chiefs to finalise the paperwork,” Seanego said to Soccer Laduma.
Cossa had previously spoken exclusively to Soccer Laduma about his proposed move after Gomora’s pre-season friendly against Zambian club Green Buffaloes. He explained how spending time away from Naturena would help his development.
The defender spent the previous season on loan at Botswana Premier League side Black Lions FC. His next move is expected to take him to Gomora, but he will have to wait before making his competitive debut for the club.
Cossa was not included in Gomora’s travelling squad for their opening Motsepe Foundation Championship fixture against Hungry Lions. The team has already arrived in Upington to prepare for the league match, but the Chiefs player was not among those who made the journey.
As a result, Cossa will not be available for Gomora’s first game of the campaign and must wait for the administrative process surrounding his loan to be completed before joining the squad for a competitive match.
His absence from the travelling party comes despite his involvement with Gomora during pre-season, including the friendly against Green Buffaloes in which he discussed the benefits of the proposed move away from Kaizer Chiefs.
Timba, by contrast, travelled with Gomora for the opening fixture and is expected to start against Hungry Lions. His loan was included in Kaizer Chiefs’ confirmed list of players moving to Motsepe Foundation Championship clubs.
The situations of Cossa and Timba therefore remain different at the beginning of the new campaign. While Timba is with the team and expected to feature in the starting line-up, Cossa is still waiting for the paperwork to be finalised and has not travelled to Upington.
Gomora will face Hungry Lions in their opening Championship match, with Cossa’s first appearance for the club now set to come at a later date.
