Cape Town Spurs appoint Roger De Sa as technical director and first-team coach

Roger De Sa will combine the roles of technical director and first-team coach at Cape Town Spurs after the ABC Motsepe League club clarified the details of his appointment.

Spurs recently announced De Sa as their new technical director, but the club has now confirmed that he will also take charge of the Urban Warriors’ senior side.

The former coach will oversee the first team while also managing the club’s wider football structure, including the teams below the senior squad.

“”Yes, Roger De Sa is appointed as a technical director; he also coaches, but his job title is that of a technical director,”” Spurs chief executive Alexi Efstathiou told KickOff.

“”He will be coaching the first team, and he will also look after the other teams below that.””

De Sa’s immediate responsibility will be to guide the team through pre-season as the club prepares for its first campaign in the ABC Motsepe League.

The new league season is scheduled to begin in September, with Spurs currently two weeks into their preparations.

“”In the ABC Motsepe League, we are only starting in September; we are still busy with pre-season now. We’ve only been training for two weeks now.””

Efstathiou added: “”So, Roger De Sa will take the team for now.””

The appointment follows a difficult campaign for Cape Town Spurs, who were relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship after finishing bottom of the table in the 2025/2026 Season.

Their demotion means the club will compete in the amateur ranks of South African football, with the ABC Motsepe League campaign due to get under way in September.

Spurs also lost several of their leading players to Premier Soccer League clubs following relegation. The departures were automatic consequences of the club dropping out of the professional division, leaving De Sa with the task of preparing a new-look squad for the season ahead.

Although his official title remains technical director, De Sa will therefore have direct responsibility for the first team during the club’s transition into the ABC Motsepe League. He will also continue to oversee the development and management of the teams beneath the senior side.

The club’s announcement had initially focused on De Sa’s technical-director role, but the clarification from Efstathiou confirms that he will be the coach of the first team for now as Cape Town Spurs begin their pre-season programme.
