Derby linked with Egyptian midfielder Emam Ashour in Championship move
Egyptian midfielder Emam Ashour, who plays for Al Ahly, has been linked with a move to Derby. The 28-year-old central midfielder is under contract with the Egyptian Premier League club until 30 June 2028.
Ashour joined Al Ahly from Danish side Midtjylland in July 2023, returning to Egypt after a brief spell in Europe. He has since helped the club win the CAF Champions League and two Egyptian league titles, including the 2024-25 championship.
The midfielder has also been a key contributor for Egypt at the 2026 World Cup, starting all five of the country’s possible matches. He has scored twice during the tournament, with those appearances accounting for 76% of Egypt’s available minutes.
Ashour’s career record includes 157 Premier League appearances, 36 goals and 25 assists. He has also played 40 times in the CAF Champions League, scoring five goals and providing six assists.
His current market value is listed at €5m, while his existing Al Ahly contract means any move to Derby would require an agreement between the clubs rather than a free transfer. Ashour previously won the Egyptian league and cup with Zamalek before moving to Midtjylland in January 2023.
The reported link would represent a move from Egypt’s top flight to the English Championship, with Ashour’s current deal at Al Ahly extending for two further seasons beyond the 2026-27 campaign.
