Lille confirm talks with Man City over Ayoub Bouadi

Lille head coach David Ancelotti has confirmed talks with Manchester City over a move for Moroccan international Ayoub Bouadi.

Bouadi’s future has become a major talking point in the current transfer window, with several European heavyweights reportedly monitoring the 18-year-old following his rapid development at Lille.

Speaking to The Telegraph after Lille’s pre-season friendly against Everton, Ancelotti acknowledged that discussions are taking place but expressed his desire to keep the midfielder.

“Of course, there are negotiations. There is interest from several clubs. He is a very, very good player, and I hope he stays with us,” Ancelotti said.

The Lille coach was particularly enthusiastic about Bouadi’s mentality and maturity, believing the teenager possesses qualities rarely seen in a player of his age.

“He has a very strong personality. He is extremely intelligent on and off the pitch, and he has great maturity. He is 18 years old, but he looks like he is 32 when he is on the field,” he added.

Ancelotti also backed Bouadi to develop into one of Europe’s elite midfielders, highlighting his technical ability, physical strength and effectiveness in individual battles.

“Technically, he is a very complete player. He is also physically strong and powerful in one-on-one situations. He will be one of the best midfielders in Europe within the next ten years.”

Bouadi featured for 45 minutes in Lille’s friendly against Everton as preparations for the new Ligue 1 campaign continued.

Ancelotti explained that the midfielder’s limited involvement was primarily related to his current fitness level rather than any concern over his availability.

The coach nevertheless confirmed that Bouadi remains available for selection as Lille prepare for the start of the French league season.

Lille’s position on a potential transfer appears to be firm. The club are reportedly reluctant to part ways with the youngster and would only consider a deal in the region of €100 million or more.

That valuation reflects the growing reputation of a player who has attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Manchester City are understood to be among the clubs keen on Bouadi as they look to strengthen and eventually reshape their midfield options. Real Madrid have also reportedly been keeping an eye on the youngster.

Bouadi’s profile increased further following his involvement with Morocco at the World Cup. His performance against Brazil in the opening match of the tournament particularly caught the attention of European clubs and scouts.

At just 18, Bouadi is already being viewed as a player with the potential to become a major figure in European football.

For now, however, Lille are hoping their prized midfielder will remain at the club for at least another season, despite growing interest and negotiations with some of Europe’s wealthiest clubs.

With Manchester City and other major teams monitoring the situation, Bouadi’s future could become one of the biggest transfer stories before the window closes.
