Senegalese striker Bouly Junior Sambou has officially made the transition to European football, joining Turkish outfit Konyaspor.
This marks a positive turn of events for Sambou, who faced a near move to Al-Riyadh in Saudi Arabia last summer, only for the transfer to be halted at the last minute by the Riyadh club president.
The experienced forward, who emerged as the top scorer in the previous Moroccan championship, experienced a challenging first half of the season with Wydad Casablanca, registering five goals in 23 appearances.
As the winter transfer window opened, an agreement was successfully reached between Sambou and Konyaspor.
The Turkish club formalized the signing of the 25-year-old Senegalese international on Sunday, securing his services until June 2026 with a two-and-a-half-year contract.
Sambou will wear the number 25 jersey for Konyaspor.
The details surrounding the transfer differ in various reports, with some sources indicating a termination of the contract with Wydad Casablanca, while others mention a transfer fee estimated at 400,000 euros.
Regardless, Sambou’s move underscores Wydad’s strategic decision to revamp the squad by parting ways with players who did not meet performance expectations.
Joining compatriot Alassane Ndao, who recently arrived on a lease of the same duration, Sambou adds to the African contingent at Konyaspor, alongside midfielders Emmanuel Boateng from Ghana and Bruno Paz from Angola.
Sambou may have the opportunity to make his debut for the Anatolian Eagles during the round of 16 of the Turkish Cup on Wednesday, followed by a potential league debut next Sunday (25th day).
It’s worth noting that Konyaspor currently occupies the penultimate position in the Süper Lig, trailing by four points from the first non-relegation place held by Pendikspor.
