Mohamed Salah makes Trabzonspor debut as Kasımpasa hold visitors to draw
Trabzonspor began their Turkish league campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Kasımpasa, with Mohamed Salah making his first appearance for the club after joining only a few days earlier.
The match was played at Kasımpasa’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan Stadium, where Salah started on the substitutes’ bench. The forward had only recently joined Trabzonspor’s first-team training and was not included in the starting line-up for the opening fixture.
Trabzonspor took the lead shortly before half-time when Noah Saviolo finished from inside the penalty area in the 43rd minute. His low shot gave the visitors the advantage after a closely contested opening period.
Kasımpasa were awarded a penalty nine minutes after the restart. Adrian Benedyczak converted from the spot in the 56th minute to bring the home side level.
Salah entered the game two minutes later, replacing Metehan Mimaroglu, and his arrival immediately increased Trabzonspor’s attacking threat.
The visitors came close to regaining the lead on several occasions after Salah’s introduction. The forward had one of the clearest opportunities when he met a cross from the left with a right-footed effort, but his shot rose over the crossbar.
Salah then almost created a winning goal from a free-kick delivered directly into the penalty area. A Trabzonspor team-mate reached the ball but headed it straight at the goalkeeper rather than finding the net.
The former substitute went close again later in the match. Another cross from the left found Salah, who attempted a first-time shot with his left foot. The effort travelled narrowly wide of the post.
Trabzonspor continued to search for a winner during the closing stages, with Salah involved in the side’s attempts to break through the Kasımpasa defence. However, the visitors could not turn their pressure into a second goal.
The result left the two teams sharing the points in the opening round of the Turkish league. For Trabzonspor, the match was defined by the early lead, Kasımpasa’s second-half response and Salah’s first competitive appearance following his recent arrival.
Although he began the game on the bench because of his limited time with the squad, Salah provided greater attacking danger after coming on. He had opportunities to score himself and came close to setting up a winner, but neither side could find the decisive goal before the final whistle.
