Orlando Pirates continue to take cautious approach with Sebastian Pedersen debut

Orlando Pirates are not planning to rush Sebastian Pedersen into competitive action, with the Norwegian striker still waiting for his first appearance for the club ahead of Sunday’s Betway Premiership meeting with Chippa United at Kings Park Stadium.

Pedersen joined the Buccaneers from Sogndal Fotball but has yet to feature in a matchday squad since completing his move. The 27-year-old was again omitted for Wednesday evening’s trip to Durban to play AmaZulu, although he travelled with the squad.

His absence has increased anticipation among Orlando Pirates supporters, who are eager to see the forward in competitive action. However, the club’s technical team is understood to be taking a careful approach while he adapts to a new country, a different footballing environment and the demands of head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s system.

Pedersen has been involved in training with his new team-mates as he continues to settle into the squad. The former Sogndal forward is being given time to understand the team’s movements, attacking patterns and expectations before being introduced to the intensity of competitive football.

There is also an emphasis on developing his understanding with the players around him. While the technical staff believe there are still elements of his game that need to develop within the team’s structure, there is confidence that he will become increasingly comfortable as he spends more time working alongside the squad.

Information reaching the Siya crew indicates that the integration process is being managed deliberately rather than accelerated because of the growing interest in his debut. Pedersen is being supported as he adjusts to life at the Soweto-based club, with Orlando Pirates hopeful that further training and regular involvement with the first-team group will help him adapt more quickly.

The striker arrived at Orlando Pirates with a strong goalscoring reputation in Norway. He signed a two-year contract with the club, which includes an option for an additional season.

His arrival has attracted considerable attention from the Buccaneers’ supporters, particularly as Orlando Pirates compete on multiple fronts this season and continue to assess their attacking options.

The club’s next opportunity to include him comes on Sunday, when they face Chippa United at Kings Park Stadium. It remains uncertain whether Pedersen will be selected for the matchday squad.

For now, Orlando Pirates appear more focused on ensuring that the striker is properly prepared than on meeting the immediate demand to see him play. The intention is for Pedersen to make his debut only once he has become sufficiently familiar with the club’s environment and is ready to contribute.
