Sopuruchukwu Obieri makes Evesham switch from Cheltenham on loan

England-Nigeria forward Sopuruchukwu Obieri has joined Evesham from Cheltenham on loan, with the move running until 31 May 2027.

The 18-year-old centre-forward completed the switch on 14 August 2026 and becomes part of the Evesham squad for the 2026-27 season. Obieri’s recorded transfer history places him under contract with Cheltenham, while his temporary move to Evesham is scheduled to end at the close of May.

Obieri began his time at Cheltenham after joining from the club’s under-18 side in July 2024. He has since gained experience through a series of loan moves, including spells at Hungerford, Worcester and Gloucester.

His first loan away from Cheltenham took him to Hungerford in January 2025. That spell ended the following month, when he moved to Worcester on loan, before returning to Cheltenham at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Obieri then joined Gloucester on loan in July 2025 and returned to Cheltenham in January 2026. His latest move represents another temporary switch away from the League Two club, this time to Evesham.

The striker is listed at 1.80m and favours his right foot. He holds English and Nigerian nationality and has been registered as a centre-forward throughout his progression from Cheltenham’s academy.

Obieri joins Evesham after the start of the 2026-27 campaign, with his current performance record showing no appearances in the EFL Cup. His loan is the latest in a sequence of moves designed around gaining first-team experience away from Cheltenham.

The agreement keeps Obieri at Evesham until 31 May 2027, when his loan spell is scheduled to conclude and he is due to return to Cheltenham.
