Elye Wahi could return to Nice as Eintracht Frankfurt seek transfer solution

Ivorian striker Elye Wahi’s future at Eintracht Frankfurt remains unclear, with former club OGC Nice considering another move for the 23-year-old.

Nice are reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing Wahi back on loan with an option to buy after his productive spell at the Ligue 1 club last season.

The forward scored nine goals in 19 appearances during his six-month loan at Nice, reviving his form after a difficult start to life at Frankfurt.

Frankfurt prefer permanent exit

According to Nice-Matin, Nice would like to re-sign Wahi on another temporary deal, but a permanent transfer is considered too expensive for the French club.

Frankfurt, meanwhile, would prefer to sell the striker outright rather than send him out on another loan.

A loan agreement could also prove complicated because of Wahi’s salary. He is reportedly earning between €300,000 and €340,000 per month, a figure above Frankfurt’s internal wage structure.

As a result, any potential deal is likely to require Frankfurt to continue covering part of his wages, as happened during Wahi’s previous loan spell.

Wahi’s Frankfurt struggles

Wahi joined Frankfurt from Marseille in January 2025, signing a contract that runs for five and a half years.

However, his time in Germany has failed to match expectations. He managed just one goal in 25 competitive appearances before returning to France on loan.

His nine-goal return at Nice has nevertheless made the French club consider another approach, potentially giving Wahi the opportunity to rebuild his career in familiar surroundings.

For the African striker, the coming weeks could determine whether his Frankfurt move becomes a costly disappointment or whether another spell at Nice can help restore the form that made him one of France’s promising young forwards.
