Barcelona make third offer for Manchester City midfielder Rodri

Barcelona have submitted a third bid to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri during the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Catalan club’s first two offers, worth €50m and €60m respectively, were both rejected by Manchester City. Romano reports that the Premier League club is seeking a fee of €80m for the Spain international.

“Talks are ongoing between the two clubs,” Romano said.

Barcelona’s latest proposal follows a report by Cadena SER on Thursday that the club was preparing a third and final offer in its negotiations with Manchester City. The report stated that Barcelona were working on a bid worth €70m to complete the transfer.

The Spanish club is understood to want to improve its offer one final time, but without exceeding the financial limits it has set for the deal. Rodri is also pushing to help facilitate his departure from the English top flight and secure a move to Barcelona.

He travelled on Friday to join Manchester City’s training programme as preparations continue for the new season.

Rodri played for Spain at the 2026 World Cup and led his country to the title, securing the nation’s second World Cup triumph in history.

The midfielder is regarded as one of the leading players in his position in world football. He played a prominent role in Spain’s success and has also enjoyed a highly successful spell with Manchester City since joining the club in 2019.

Among the major honours he has won with City are the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League. His performances have established him as an important figure for both club and country.

Barcelona are now attempting to find an agreement with Manchester City by raising their offer to a level acceptable to the English club while remaining within their own spending limits. Manchester City, meanwhile, have rejected the opening two bids and placed an €80m valuation on the player.

The negotiations remain active, with the difference between Barcelona’s reported €70m proposal and Manchester City’s asking price currently standing at €10m. Romano’s update indicates that discussions will continue as Barcelona seek to bring the transfer to a conclusion.

The next stage of the process will depend on whether the two clubs can bridge that gap, while Rodri’s reported desire to move to Barcelona adds another element to the negotiations. For now, he remains involved in Manchester City’s preparations for the new campaign.
