Habib seals HKFC return as Guinea midfielder joins on a free transfer

Guinea midfielder Habib has joined HKFC on a free transfer from Hong Kong Premier League rivals Tai Po, completing a return to the club on 13 August 2026.

The 30-year-old defensive midfielder previously played for HKFC before moving to Tai Po in January 2025. He now switches back to the Hong Kong Football Club after a spell that included a loan move to Kowloon City during the 2025-26 season.

Habib spent the 2025-26 campaign with Kowloon City on loan from Tai Po before returning to the league champions on 30 June. His transfer to HKFC follows that return and was completed without a fee.

He brings experience of Hong Kong’s top flight and has recorded 45 appearances and four assists in the Hong Kong Premier League. His career record also includes 20 appearances, three goals and three assists in the Hong Kong First Division.

The midfielder was part of Tai Po’s title-winning team in the 2024-25 season, when the club became Hong Kong champions. That success came after he had joined Tai Po from HKFC earlier in the same campaign.

Habib began his senior club career with All Black before moving to North District on a free transfer in November 2020. He joined HKFC from North District in September 2022, also without a transfer fee, establishing a previous connection with his new club.

Born in Conakry, Habib stands 1.69m tall and is right-footed. His role is primarily in defensive midfield, adding a specialist holding midfielder to HKFC’s squad for the new season.

The move keeps Habib in the Hong Kong Premier League while taking him back to a club he represented before his spell with Tai Po and subsequent loan period at Kowloon City. HKFC have now completed the registration of the Guinea midfielder following the free transfer.
