Tsotetsi backs Zwane to revive Chiefs career with Hope FC loan

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi believes Samkelo Zwane’s move to Hope FC could help the midfielder develop and eventually return to the Amakhosi first team.

Zwane is set to join Motsepe Foundation Championship newcomers Hope FC on loan for the season, alongside his Kaizer Chiefs team-mates Bontle Molefe and Naledi Hlongwane, according to Soccer Laduma.

Tsotetsi believes the temporary move can provide Zwane with the regular playing time he needs after a limited spell at Siwelele last season.

“He is a promising midfielder. Technically, he is a good player. He’s got the quality, and he is the future of Amakhosi. He didn’t get much game time at Siwelele like he would have hoped or how Chiefs would have hoped, but making a move to Hope will be good for him. It’s a new team and his chances of getting more game time are high, but it’s still a competitive environment,” Tsotetsi told Soccer Laduma.

Zwane progressed through the Kaizer Chiefs academy system and first attracted attention during his appearances in the DStv Diski Challenge. He was then given an opportunity to establish himself in the senior side under Arthur Zwane in 2022.

The 24-year-old spent last season at Siwelele, where he made seven appearances in all competitions. He is expected to target a more consistent run of matches at Hope FC as he looks to strengthen his claims for a future return to the Kaizer Chiefs first team.

Tsotetsi said the standard in the National First Division would ensure Zwane continued to face a demanding test, while also giving him the chance to regain confidence and improve his maturity.

“NFD is competitive, and it will be good for him to find himself again, so that he can return with more experience and maturity and he can give Chiefs something. I think it’s a good move for the team and the player.”

Kaizer Chiefs have sent several young players to Motsepe Foundation Championship clubs for the current season as part of a broader effort to aid their development.

Sifiso Timba and Xolani Cossa are set to spend the campaign at Gomora United. Vicky Mkhawana and Ofentse Kgosana have also been unveiled by Real Native FC, the club formerly known as Casric Stars.

Nkosana Mbuthu is another Kaizer Chiefs player who appears likely to leave on loan for the season.

The club will hope the group gains valuable senior experience and returns better prepared to compete for places at Naturena. For Zwane, the immediate priority will be securing regular football at Hope FC and demonstrating that he remains capable of contributing to Kaizer Chiefs in the future.
