Excelsior prospect Noa El Hamdaoui moves to MVV Maastricht for 2026-27 campaign

Noa El Hamdaoui has joined MVV Maastricht on loan from Excelsior for the 2026-27 season, with the 18-year-old Moroccan midfielder aiming to gain regular senior experience and continue his development in the Netherlands.

The move was officially confirmed on 12 August 2026. El Hamdaoui leaves Excelsior U21 to spend the campaign with MVV Maastricht, where he will attempt to establish himself in a new environment and secure more playing time at professional level.

There is no transfer fee attached to the agreement. El Hamdaoui remains under contract with Excelsior, his parent club, and is expected to return to Rotterdam when the loan ends on 30 June 2027.

The temporary move represents the next stage of a career that has so far been developed entirely in the Netherlands. El Hamdaoui began his youth career with Excelsior Jeugd before joining Sparta Youth in July 2019.

He returned to Excelsior three years later, initially rejoining the club’s youth set-up. His progress continued through the club’s academy, with a spell at Excelsior Jeugd between 2022 and 2023 followed by a move into Excelsior U17 for the 2023-24 season.

In July 2024, he stepped up to Excelsior U21, marking another important stage in his development. The loan to MVV Maastricht now gives him the opportunity to test himself in a different setting and compete for senior football.

El Hamdaoui is the nephew of former Morocco international Mounir El Hamdaoui, who was a well-known figure in Dutch football and with the Atlas Lions. However, the younger player is following his own path and will look to build his reputation through his performances rather than family connections.

For Excelsior, the arrangement allows El Hamdaoui to gain experience, maturity and exposure while the club retains control of his long-term future. He is due to return to his parent club at the conclusion of the loan on 30 June 2027.

MVV Maastricht will be the latest club in El Hamdaoui’s progression through Dutch football, after his development with Excelsior and earlier spell at Sparta Youth. The move is intended to provide him with a stronger platform to continue his education as an attacking midfielder.
