Getafe president Angel Torres says former Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos is on the club’s list of potential signings, although the Spanish side are not currently prioritising another centre-back.
Getafe have six central defenders in their squad and have focused instead on strengthening the wide areas. The club recently signed former Real Madrid and Spain full-back Dani Carvajal.
Speaking to Marca, Torres said he had already discussed the possibility of signing Ramos with the player’s brother and agent.
“I spoke to his brother and agent. We have six centre-backs, and that position was not one of our priorities because the manager needed players for the wide positions,” Torres said.
“But there is still time, and Ramos is among the possible players.”
Torres added that Getafe had been working on the possibility of bringing in Ramos for some time, but reiterated that a move had not been central to the club’s plans.
“He can join us because we have been working on this for a while, but it was not the priority, as our objective was to sign players for the wide positions,” he said.
“If we sign a centre-back in January, that is a possibility, but we currently have good cover in that position.”
Ramos left Mexican club Monterrey last January and remains without a club. The defender has not announced his retirement from football.
During his club career, Ramos has made 850 appearances, scoring 125 goals and providing 42 assists. He has also won 180 caps for Spain, scoring 23 goals and assisting eight more.
Getafe are 15th in the Spanish league table with eight points.
