Soccer Laduma previews Chiefs’ scoring crisis and Mosimane’s Bafana Bafana return

Soccer Laduma’s 1,487th edition examines Kaizer Chiefs’ lack of goals, Manqoba Mngqithi’s new challenge at Young Africans SC and Pitso Mosimane’s expected return as Bafana Bafana head coach. The issue will be available from outlets on Thursday, 13 August 2026.

Kaizer Chiefs have scored only 86 league goals across the past three seasons, compared with 174 for Mamelodi Sundowns in the same period. That total is less than half of Sundowns’ tally.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows coach tells Soccer Laduma that the scale of the opportunity, along with the prospect of competing in the CAF Champions League, was central to his decision to leave South Africa.

Mngqithi also discusses the arrival of Peter Shalulile at Yanga, including the part he played in securing the move and the efforts of club president Hersi Ally Said to complete the deal.

The interview explores Yanga’s developing rivalry with Steve Barker, the South African coach charged with trying to end the club’s dominance at Simba SC.

Mosimane’s second Bafana spell

The appointment follows the departure of Belgian coach Hugo Broos, who holds the record for being the longest-serving manager of the national team. Mosimane is set to take charge of Bafana Bafana for a second time, but he returns with considerably more experience and faces a more demanding task than during his first spell.

When Mosimane initially became coach, Bafana Bafana were enduring a difficult period. This time, he would inherit a side that recently made history at the FIFA World Cup, meaning the country is unlikely to accept any regression.

The issue looks at the developments surrounding the appointment of ‘Jingles’ and the expectations that will accompany his return.
