Trezeguet confirmed as Al-Riyadh’s latest signing for 2026-27

Al-Riyadh have confirmed the signing of Egypt international Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” on a free transfer, with the 31-year-old due to join the Saudi Pro League club from the start of the 2026-27 season.

The Saudi club announced the move on Tuesday through its official account on X, publishing a video introducing their new recruit. The accompanying message read: “From the land of Egypt… to the Central Region School.”

Trezeguet agreed to end his contract with Egyptian club Al Ahly by mutual consent after spending only one season back at the club where he began his career. He returned to his boyhood side after a lengthy spell playing overseas.

During that campaign, the winger made 32 appearances in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing one assist. Despite his individual contribution, he did not win a trophy with Al Ahly.

He also represented Egypt at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scoring once and setting up another goal.

The move to Al-Riyadh takes Trezeguet into the Saudi Pro League after a career that has included spells in several prominent European and Middle Eastern competitions. His experience includes time in the English Premier League, the Turkish Super Lig and the Belgian top flight.

Among the clubs he has represented are Aston Villa, Anderlecht, Trabzonspor and Qatari side Al Rayyan. Trabzonspor currently include Mohamed Salah in their squad.

Al-Riyadh’s move for Trezeguet had previously been reported by Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiyah, which said the club had received approval from the Saudi Pro League authorities to complete the signing after meeting the registration requirements.

The club received its financial efficiency certificate last Thursday after fulfilling all the conditions set by the league. That approval cleared the way for the transfer to be completed as a free-agent deal.

Al-Riyadh finished 15th in the Saudi Pro League last season, occupying the first position above the relegation places. The club will now aim to improve on that finish when the new campaign begins.

Their season opens with a match against Al-Ettifaq next Friday. Trezeguet’s arrival gives the club an experienced international forward as they prepare for another campaign in the Saudi top flight.

The former Al Ahly player arrives with a record of regular involvement for Egypt and a playing background that stretches across England, Belgium, Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. His signing is the latest step in Al-Riyadh’s preparations for the 2026-27 Saudi Pro League season.
