Torres and Rodri transfers face decisive deadlines before club returns

Ferran Torres and Rodri Hernandez are racing to settle their futures before they are due back for pre-season training with Barcelona and Manchester City respectively, with negotiations over moves to Paris St-Germain and Barcelona approaching a critical stage, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

The two players are following developments closely as their return dates with their current clubs draw near. Both want their situations resolved as soon as possible so they can join preparations with their prospective new teams without delay.

Torres is close to leaving Barcelona for Paris St-Germain, while Rodri is nearing a move from Manchester City to Barcelona. Their representatives are working to complete the deals, with both players keen to avoid returning to their existing clubs before beginning the next stage of their careers.

The international break for players whose countries remained in the World Cup until the final week of the tournament is also nearing its end. Torres and Rodri are therefore waiting anxiously for progress in the negotiations, with only a short window remaining to conclude their transfers.

Torres faces earlier deadline

Torres is expected to return to training with Barcelona on Wednesday, 12 August, alongside the other Spain players who have not yet resumed work with the Catalan club.

That leaves Tuesday as the key opportunity for all parties to reach an agreement and prevent Torres from appearing again at Barcelona’s Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on Wednesday morning as preparations for the new season continue.

The Barcelona forward wants the transfer to Paris St-Germain completed quickly enough to allow him to begin working with his new team rather than reporting back to his current club. The negotiations are being closely monitored as the deadline approaches.

Rodri has slightly more time to resolve his position. Manchester City have scheduled his return to training for Friday, 14 August.

His manager, Enzo Maresca, recently indicated that Rodri “will be in Manchester on Friday”, referring to the date on which the Spain midfielder is due back at the English club.

However, if Barcelona and Manchester City can reach an agreement in the coming days, Rodri will not need to return to England. Instead, he would travel directly to Barcelona to start a new chapter in his career.

Barcelona keen to complete Rodri deal

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is waiting for Rodri’s arrival and considers him an important part of the club’s plans for the new season. The Catalan side is continuing to work towards completing the transfer as quickly as possible.

The contrasting return dates mean the two players are facing slightly different pressures. Torres must resolve his future before Wednesday’s scheduled return to Barcelona, while Rodri has until Friday before he is expected back in Manchester.

Both negotiations are therefore entering a decisive period, with Torres and Rodri hoping their moves can be finalised before they are required to resume training with their current clubs.
