Trabzonspor target eighth league title after signing Mohamed Salah

Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality mayor Ahmet Metin Genc has called for united support from supporters after Mohamed Salah joined Trabzonspor, saying the club’s ambition is to win an eighth league title with the former Liverpool forward.

Speaking at a festival in the city, Genc praised Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan for bringing Salah to the Turkish club.

“Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has brought a great star to the club, and that is Mohamed Salah,” said Genc.

“Now let us all unite and stand behind the team by buying tickets and season tickets, because our goal is to sell 500,000 shirts.”

He added: “Our goal is to win our eighth league title and celebrate our club, Trabzonspor, together.”

Salah has signed a two-year contract with Trabzonspor and has joined the squad in training as the club prepares for the 2026-27 season.

The Turkish club released a video of the forward wearing its shirt on its social media accounts. His arrival has already had a significant effect on merchandise sales and season-ticket demand.

According to Turkish website 61saat, Trabzonspor sold as many shirts in the two days after Salah’s arrival as the club shop usually sells over a period of one and a half months.

Trabzonspor have also announced the sale of 18,000 season tickets for the 2026-27 campaign, setting a new record for the club. Their stated target is to increase that figure to 25,000.

The club have disclosed details of Salah’s contract, including an annual salary of 10m euros and a signing-on bonus of 7m euros. That gives the player guaranteed financial terms worth a total of 17m euros.

The agreement also includes performance-related incentives linked to Salah’s displays during the contract.

Trabzonspor say the 34-year-old will receive 20% of the revenue from official products released under his name. The contract details also state that his agent will receive a 5% commission.

Salah spent nine seasons with Liverpool before moving to Trabzonspor. During his time with the Reds, he made 315 appearances, scoring 257 goals and providing 120 assists.

The club’s supporters are now being encouraged to continue backing the team through ticket purchases, season-ticket sales and shirt orders, with Genc identifying Salah’s arrival as central to Trabzonspor’s hopes of competing for another league title.
