Omar Marmoush starts for Manchester City against Atletico Madrid in South Korea friendly
Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush has been named in the starting line-up for his side’s friendly against Atletico Madrid in South Korea.
The Egypt international will lead the attack alongside Antoine Semenyo and Savinho as City face the Spanish club in a pre-season meeting.
Gianluigi Donnarumma starts in goal, with Matheus Nunes, Vitor Reis, Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol forming the defensive line.
Mateo Kovacic and Tijjani Reijnders are included in midfield, while Phil Foden joins Savinho, Marmoush and Semenyo in the attacking unit.
Manchester City’s starting line-up is:
Gianluigi Donnarumma
Matheus Nunes, Vitor Reis, Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol
Mateo Kovacic, Tijjani Reijnders, Phil Foden
Savinho, Omar Marmoush, Antoine Semenyo
Marmoush returned to Manchester City training only a few days ago after taking a period of rest following his involvement with Egypt at the World Cup.
The forward was then introduced as a substitute in City’s friendly against Korean league stars several days ago.
His inclusion from the start against Atletico Madrid represents the next stage of his return to match action. He will operate in the front three with Semenyo and Savinho, while Foden is positioned behind them in midfield.
The match in South Korea gives Marmoush another opportunity to build his fitness after his break and allows Manchester City to continue their preparations in a competitive friendly setting.
City’s selected team combines established players including Donnarumma, Dias, Gvardiol, Kovacic and Foden with younger members of the squad such as Vitor Reis, while Marmoush is involved from the opening whistle after appearing from the bench in the previous match.
The fixture is being played as a friendly, with both sides using the game as part of their preparations. Marmoush’s place in the starting line-up is the main change in his involvement since returning to training, having been used as a substitute against the Korean league selection.
The Egyptian striker will now be asked to contribute from the beginning, with Semenyo and Savinho providing the attacking support around him. Foden’s presence in the midfield three adds another attacking option behind the front line.
Manchester City’s meeting with Atletico Madrid is being held in South Korea on Sunday, 9 August 2026.
