Real Madrid claim first win under Jose Mourinho with friendly victory over Ferencvaros

Real Madrid secured their first pre-season victory under new manager Jose Mourinho by beating Hungarian side Ferencvaros 2-1 in a friendly on Saturday.

Mario Rivas and Carlos Espe scored for the Spanish club, while Kenan Kodoro pulled one back for Ferencvaros. The result follows Real Madrid’s 2-2 draw with Fiorentina in their opening warm-up match under Mourinho.

The game also provided an opportunity for new arrivals Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries and Carlos Espe to feature for Real Madrid.

Rivas opened the scoring in the 41st minute with an excellent header after meeting a cross from Alexis Krea. Real Madrid doubled their advantage four minutes after half-time when Espe produced a well-placed finish from Federico Valverde’s delivery.

Ferencvaros reduced the deficit in the 57th minute. Kodoro struck with a fine shot that found the back of the Real Madrid net, but the Hungarian side were unable to complete the comeback.

The victory was Real Madrid’s first in their pre-season preparations for the new campaign, with Mourinho having overseen a draw and a win in his first two friendly matches as the club’s new manager.

Real Madrid will continue their friendly schedule against Deportivo La Coruna next Wednesday. Their following fixture is against German club Schalke on Sunday, 16 August.

The matches are part of the club’s preparations after Real Madrid finished second in the previous season’s league, collecting 86 points. They ended the campaign behind champions Barcelona.

Real Madrid will begin their new La Liga campaign away from home against Espanyol on Saturday, 22 August.
