Haissem Hassan left out of Real Oviedo squad amid Celtic transfer reports

Haissem Hassan has been omitted from Real Oviedo’s squad for their friendly against French side Le Havre, amid reports that the Egypt international is close to joining Scottish Premiership club Celtic.

Real Oviedo announced the players selected for the fixture on Friday, 7 August, with Hassan’s name absent from the squad. The match is the Spanish club’s final pre-season game before the new Segunda Division campaign begins.

Hassan’s omission comes as several reports continue to link him with a move to Celtic. No transfer has been confirmed, but the latest developments have increased speculation over the 24-year-old’s future at Oviedo.

According to reports in Spain, Real Oviedo will not allow Hassan to leave unless his €12m release clause is paid in full. Villarreal, his former club, are also set to receive 40% of any transfer fee generated by his move to another team.

The winger played twice for Egypt at the 2026 World Cup. He provided the assist for one goal against Argentina and also played a key role in another goal, although that effort was disallowed after a review by the video assistant referee.

Hassan helped Real Oviedo secure promotion to Spain’s top flight, but the club returned to the second tier after only one season in La Liga. He made 38 appearances for Oviedo last season, supplying three assists without scoring.

The friendly against Le Havre comes as Oviedo complete their preparations for the new campaign in Spain’s second division. Their relegation at the end of last season means the club will now compete again in the Segunda Division.

Hassan’s absence from the squad has therefore become the main focus before the match, particularly with Celtic reported to be nearing an agreement for his transfer. Real Oviedo’s stance over the release clause, and Villarreal’s entitlement to a percentage of the fee, remain important factors in any potential deal.

For now, Hassan remains a Real Oviedo player, but his exclusion from the group facing Le Havre leaves further uncertainty over whether he will be involved when the Spanish second-tier season begins.
