Mohamed Salah offered a Black Sea retreat during light-hearted Trabzon meeting

Mohamed Salah was offered a plot of land in Trabzon after a promotional filming session with the mayor of Araklı turned into an unexpected discussion about Egypt, climate change and the future of living conditions.

Huseyin Avni Coskun Cebi, mayor of Araklı in Turkey’s Trabzon province, made the tongue-in-cheek proposal to the Egypt captain during the commercial shoot in the Black Sea town. The exchange quickly attracted attention across Turkish social media and prompted widespread reaction.

According to Turkish website 61saat, Cebi warned Salah that climate change could make life in Egypt increasingly difficult during the summer months. He suggested that the coastal region around Trabzon would offer a more comfortable alternative.

“Despite the beauty of Egypt, its people suffer from poverty. Climate change is destroying the world, and in the future it will become difficult to live in Egypt during the summer months. Our region, however, will remain habitable and will be less affected by the consequences of climate change,” Cebi told Salah.

The mayor then made his offer in a deliberately humorous tone.

“Let us give you a beautiful plot of land, and you will find a place in a wonderful geographical location, away from climate change,” he added.

The exchange ended with a friendly handshake. Salah responded with a broad smile but has not made any official comment about the proposal.

The meeting came only a few days after Trabzonspor officially announced the signing of the Egypt captain, in a move that surprised supporters in both Turkey and Egypt. Salah is regarded as one of the leading footballers in the world and his standing made the reported transfer a major talking point among Turkish football fans.

The commercial appearance took place in Araklı, a district of Trabzon on Turkey’s Black Sea coast. The mayor’s comments, which were framed as a light-hearted invitation rather than a formal offer, became the main focus of the event after footage and reports of the conversation circulated online.

Salah’s presence in Trabzon has also generated significant public interest because of his status as Egypt’s national-team captain and his reputation as one of football’s most recognisable global stars. The announcement of his move to Trabzonspor had already attracted attention well beyond the club’s local fanbase before the mayor’s remarks added a further twist.

No details were given about the land mentioned by Cebi, and there was no indication that Salah had accepted the invitation. The player’s only recorded response during the exchange was a smile before the handshake brought the conversation to a close.
