Yan Diomande joins Real Madrid in deal worth up to €140m

Real Madrid have announced the signing of Ivorian winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig on a long-term contract running until the summer of 2033.

The Spanish club confirmed the agreement with RB Leipzig on Thursday evening in a statement published on their official website, bringing an end to transfer negotiations that lasted longer than expected.

According to Sport, Real Madrid will pay more than €120m for Diomande. The fixed value of the transfer is €125m, while the agreement includes a further €10m in bonuses considered achievable and another €5m in more difficult performance-related incentives.

Leganes will also receive 5% of the fixed transfer fee under the terms of the deal.

The announcement had been delayed by a dispute involving Diomande’s current and former representatives. That disagreement prolonged discussions between the clubs and the player’s camp before the transfer could finally be completed.

Diomande has made 46 official appearances for first-division clubs during his senior career. He played 10 matches for Leganes and 36 for RB Leipzig, including 33 Bundesliga appearances and three matches in the German Cup.

His record also includes 13 senior international appearances for Ivory Coast, taking his total number of senior matches for club and country to 59.

Real Madrid believe that record is sufficient to demonstrate that Diomande has the attributes required to become one of the most promising forwards in the transfer market.

The Ivorian can operate on either flank, a versatility that is expected to give manager Jose Mourinho different options when shaping the team’s attack. His ability to play on both the right and left is viewed by the club as a way to make Real Madrid more aggressive, explosive and less predictable in the final third.

The move represents a major financial commitment from Real Madrid, with the overall package potentially reaching €140m before accounting for the 5% share of the fixed fee due to Leganes.

Diomande’s arrival follows negotiations that stretched beyond the expected timetable, but Real Madrid have now secured his services for the next seven years. The club’s announcement confirms both the agreement with RB Leipzig and the length of the contract, which keeps the winger at the Spanish side until June 2033.

Despite having limited experience at senior level compared with some established forwards, Real Madrid regard Diomande’s performances for Leganes, RB Leipzig and Ivory Coast as enough evidence of his potential. His capacity to play from either side of the attack was also a significant factor in the club’s decision to complete the deal.

For RB Leipzig, the agreement brings a conclusion to the discussions over one of their young attacking players. For Real Madrid, it adds an Ivorian wide forward described by the club as a player capable of developing into one of the leading prospects in the market.
