Real Madrid improve Vinicius Junior contract offer amid Arsenal interest

Real Madrid have made an improved offer to renew Vinicius Junior’s contract as uncertainty continues over the Brazil forward’s future at the club.

Vinicius’ current agreement expires at the end of next season, and Arsenal are interested in signing him if he fails to reach a new deal with the Spanish club.

According to The Athletic, representatives of the 25-year-old held a meeting in Madrid with Real Madrid general manager Jose Angel Sanchez and chief scout Juni Calafat to discuss the renewal.

Financial differences have been the main obstacle in negotiations. Vinicius is seeking an annual package worth up to 30m euros, including his salary, bonuses and a renewal payment.

Real Madrid had previously been unwilling to meet those demands, but have now increased their offer to reflect the player’s importance to the team.

The decision is therefore with Vinicius, who can either extend his stay at Real Madrid, remain at the club until his current contract expires, or consider offers from elsewhere. Arsenal’s interest is understood to be the leading alternative.

Arsenal’s owners have approved the club’s move for Vinicius as they look to strengthen their attacking options. The Premier League club have expressed a desire to sign the forward, although any transfer would depend on his situation at Real Madrid.

Vinicius has recently returned to Real Madrid training ahead of the new season after representing Brazil at the World Cup. He scored four goals in five matches during the tournament.

The summer has already brought significant activity at Real Madrid. Jose Mourinho has returned as head coach, while the club have also signed several players to strengthen the squad.

Vinicius joined Real Madrid in 2018 and has made 375 appearances for the club. He has scored 128 goals and provided 100 assists during that time.

He has also helped Real Madrid win a number of major honours, including three La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies.

However, the forward has faced criticism from some supporters in recent months as the team’s results have declined. That has added to the significance of the decision he must now make about his future.

Real Madrid’s revised proposal represents a change in their previous position, with the club now prepared to offer terms closer to those requested by the player.
