Stellenbosch striker Wonderboy Makhubu could join Kruger United on loan

Stellenbosch striker Wonderboy Makhubu could leave the club on loan, with newly promoted Kruger United in talks to sign the 29-year-old forward.

Soccer Laduma understands that Kruger United have identified Makhubu as a potential addition as they look to strengthen their attack. Discussions between the two clubs are already under way, and the proposed move could be completed before Friday.

“The two clubs are already talking, and the loan deal would be finalized before Friday,” a source close to the player told Soccer Laduma.

Stellenbosch declined to comment on the transfer speculation, while Kruger sporting director Elasto Kapowedza could not be reached for a response.

Makhubu joined Stellenbosch from Sekhukhune United in January and has spent only seven months with the Cape Winelands club. His possible departure would therefore bring an early end to a spell that initially appeared to be developing positively under head coach Gavin Hunt.

Hunt publicly praised the striker in February after Stellenbosch defeated Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in the first round of the Nedbank Cup. Makhubu featured in that match and was singled out by the manager for his contribution.

At the time, Hunt said: “Wonderboy Makhubu was outstanding, proper number nine footballer, something we really need and so he is coming up tonight so fair play.”

Despite that endorsement, Makhubu has made 13 appearances for Stellenbosch and has contributed one goal and one assist. The figures form part of the background to the proposed loan move, although neither club has confirmed that an agreement has been reached.

Kruger United’s interest comes as the newly promoted side prepare to bolster their attacking options. The club’s pursuit of Makhubu could give the forward an opportunity to secure more regular football, but the terms and duration of any loan have not been disclosed.

For now, the transfer remains under discussion. The source’s claim that the deal could be finalised before Friday has not been officially confirmed by Stellenbosch or Kruger United, and there has been no public announcement from either club.

Makhubu’s next move will depend on whether negotiations between the two sides reach a successful conclusion. Until then, he remains a Stellenbosch player, having joined the club from Sekhukhune United at the start of the year.
